Education in Kunming
Every year hundreds of foreign students enroll in language courses at one of Kunming’s several Universities. These students often choose Kunming in order to escape the increasingly commercial and globalized nature of major cities such as
Beijing or
Shanghai (not to mention the often stifling pollution and fluctuating weather). Kunming on the other hand exudes a laid back, informal vibe with a year round, mild, temperate climate. The mild temperatures mimic the character of the locals and foreigners alike.
Yunnan University is known for its beautiful campus and diverse educational programs. The university offers a range of Mandarin Chinese courses from beginner to advanced levels as well as studies focusing on Chinese ethnic minorities. These classes tend to be offered early in the morning. Yunnan Normal University, across the street from Yunnan University, also offers a range of Mandarin courses throughout different times of the day. Several private language schools in Kunming offer the same services as the universities, usually at a cheaper price. Almost all of these language schools offer student visa services with enrollment.
